COMSATS Islamabad University (CUI), formerly known as COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), is a public university in Pakistan. It is a multi-campus university and is headquartered in Islamabad. In the latest 2023 QS subject ranking, COMSATS Electrical and Chemical Engineering rank first in Pakistan. COMSATS Islamabad University (CUI) is part of the Southern Commission for Sustainable Development Science and Technology.
Overview
The university was established in 1998 by the Southern Commission for the Sustainability of Science and Technology (COMSATS), and its first charter was issued by the Government of Pakistan in March 2000. Palestine joined COMSATS in January 2015 and became its 23 member state. SM Junaid Zaidi was the founder of the university and continued to serve in the university till March 3, 2014. The post of President has been vacant for almost three years. Muhammad Tabassum Afzali took over the presidency in April 2012 and accepted the leadership of the university after moving from the College of Information Technology to an adult university with a new governance structure. Comcast is considered to be the first specialized information technology research institute in Pakistan. Earlier, its name was COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), which was changed to an adult university named COMSATS Islamabad University (CUI) by a parliamentary bill in April 2018.
