Fatima Jinnah Women’s University or FJWU is a public university near Rawalpindi Mall Road, Punjab, Pakistan. As the first women’s university in Pakistan, it ranks 18th in the general category of Pakistan Higher Education Commission. Neuroscientist Dr. Najma Najam is the founding vice president of the institute.
Students come from all over the country, including Balochistan, South Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh. Between 1998 and 2008, more than 4,362 students graduated.
Campuses
The main building is Victorian, built as a residence by Sikh brothers Mohan and Sohan Singh. It became the Presidency of Pakistan in the mid-1960s. The rooms are steeped in history. Personalities like Benazir Bhutto, Fazlullah and President Habibullah Khan Marwat, President Zia-ul-Haq have visited the corridors. Former Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif inaugurated it on August 6, 1998, as a gift to the daughters of the nation and their families. The university is unique in that it is funded by the Punjab government.
