Established in July 1976 as the campus of the University of Sindh, it was chartered as an independent university a year later. Educationist S.M. Qureshi was appointed the founding vice president of the university. In 2016, it was ranked sixth in the “fifth rank of Pakistan’s higher education institutions” in the engineering category of higher education institutions.

History

Founded in 1963, the University of Sindh was affiliated to the University of Sindh (1951) in Jamshoro in direct response to the Faculty of Engineering. Until 1973, Dr. Abdul Qadir Khan Afghan was one of the founders of this faculty. Through his efforts, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology obtained the Manifesto of the University of Engineering. The first group of MUETs joined in January 1974, comprising 450 students in Civil Engineering, Machinery, Electrical, Electronics, Metals, Chemical Engineering and Industrial Engineering. Initially, these courses were started at Government Technical College, Nawabshah Sakrand Road, where students lived in university hostels (some classes were converted into dormitories). Some students had bought private houses in the Nawabshah Society area, where they lived for two years until they built a new hostel near the university campus. With the admission of the third batch in 1976, the first batch of students was shifted to Jamshoro to complete the third and final year of engineering education. The main reason for this is that MUET Jamshoro Campus has well-equipped laboratories and high quality teachers, as well as lack of classrooms and laboratory space in Nawabshah, as the number of students entering the third bed is 1500. Has been picked up. Other Nawabshah MUET High School students who have completed the second year of the project are continuing the same behavior and have been transferred to the MUET campus in Jamshoro for the fifth semester.
