Rawalpindi Medical University is a public university located in Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pakistan. It is affiliated to three public teaching hospitals (Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and DHQ Hospital – Rawalpindi) for undergraduate and graduate medical education and training. It is also listed as a recognized university and ranking institution by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
Campus: The University has two main campuses, Tipu Road Campus and Holy Family Hospital Campus. The Tap Road Campus offers elementary science courses, and the Holy Family Hospital campus offers clinical science courses.
Communities: The University has different communities, the most famous being Josh Arts Society, Josh Sports Society, Josh Aid Society, Josh Literary Society, Josh Theater Club, Josh Student Research Society, Josh Adventure Club, Progress Welfare Society and Islamic Society.
The university was established in 1974 as Rawalpindi Medical School. It was originally affiliated with Punjab University, Lahore, Pakistan. Joined Lahore University of Health Sciences in 2003. In May 2017, the Government of Punjab, Pakistan upgraded the College to a University.
Affiliated teaching hospital
There are currently three government hospitals attached to the university, all located in Rawalpindi. They are Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ). Benazir Bhutto Hospital was formerly a general hospital in Rawalpindi. Her name was changed to Benazir Bhutto because she was pronounced dead at the hospital on December 27, 2007.
