Mughalpura Technical College was established in 1921 on the outskirts of Lahore under the name Mughalpura, later renamed as “McLaughlin Engineering College” which was given in 1923 when Punjab in its early days. I was. It was founded by Governor Sir Edward Douglas McLaughlin. . The main stone of the building is now called the central part. In 1932, Punjab University was awarded Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. A degree in civil engineering was also introduced in the college in 1939. The Bachelor’s degree program in Mining Engineering was started in 1954. In 1962, it was given a charter and renamed as West Pakistan University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore. During the 1960’s, graduate programs were introduced in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Architecture, and Urban and Regional Planning. In 1972, it was officially the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore. By the 1970s, he had developed master’s degree programs in engineering, architecture, urban and regional planning, and related fields. The second campus of the university was established in Sahiwal in 1975 which was shifted to Tuxla in 1978 and in 1993 Tuxla became an independent university under the name of University of Engineering and Technology.
Today, it is widely regarded as one of the best and prestigious engineering universities in Pakistan, with over 50,000 students applying for admission every year. The University has a faculty of 881 persons with 257 doctorates till 2016. It has a total of 9,385 graduate and 1,708 graduate students. Its University of South Carolina was also ranked # 701 in the world in 2018 by the same publication.   In 2018, the QS ranking dropped from 701 university to 801-1000 ranking slot. At the moment, the university ranking in Asia is currently at # 200 and the world ranking of the university is 701.
