The University of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences (UVAS), originally known as Lahore Veterinary College, is a public university located in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. It is recognized by the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC). It has additional teaching campuses at Patoki and Jhang in rural Punjab. Founded in 1882, it is one of the oldest institutes of veterinary science and microbiology in Asia and one of the first British institutes established in the Indian subcontinent.
Since its inception, it has maintained its position as a leading and leading institute of veterinary medicine and veterinary sciences, and has conducted extensive research in microbiology and human resource development. This agricultural university was also attached to Faisalabad for many years and then it was run separately. The University offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs in various fields of animal health, nutrition, safety and security. The university maintains its high status and has been declared as one of the best universities in the “Agricultural” category by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) till 2010.
