History
Dr. Fareed Uddin Baqai and his wife, Dr. Zahida Baqai, are doctors and surgeons from Pakistan and the United Kingdom, respectively. They started practicing in Karachi, the country’s capital at the time. The Bays established Bagay Hospital Nachimabad in Nachimabad, Karachi, in the late 1960s. It evolved into a general hospital with 350 beds and contemporary facilities for middle-income private patients, as well as a charitable activity.
The Bagai Foundation purchased land on the M-9 highway, just outside of Karachi, in 1976. The Baqai Medical Complex was founded by Baqais.
They convinced the government to fund community-based medical education programs in order to provide medical services. As a result, they decided to start medical school. The first batch of MBBS students was accepted in 1988, however, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Commission did not officially approve the college’s clinical teaching at Baqai Hospital in Nizamabad until 1990. The Bagai Foundation continues to develop the Bagai Dental College in Karachi in 1992, which was the first of its type in the city.
