The IBA was established in 1955 by the Pakistani government as a business school in technical collaboration with the Wharton School and the University of Southern California. Many prominent American professors were assigned to prepare the IBA curriculum. It remained a partial school within Karachi University in 1994, until its status was changed by the Sindh government to an independent chartered university. Since 2003, the IBA has expanded from a full-time undergraduate business school to an interdisciplinary university with undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs.
IBA, today, is one of the select and top institutions in Pakistan, especially known for its business program. Today IBA has 2 campuses in Karachi (Main Campus and City Campus) with a student body of more than 6,000 students. IBA has 15 institutions around the world, including Babson College, Indian School of Business, SP Jain Institute and Northwestern University. It counts among its alumni many leading public figures and business leaders including former Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain, famous actor Shehryar Munawar, former Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, renowned economist Muhammad Uzair, former Federal Minister for Finance, Revenue and Economic affairs include Assad. Omar and business leader Quentin de Silva.
Admission
Acceptance rate to IBA Karachi for Fall 2020 admissions is as follows:
- Undergraduate acceptance rate: 20%
- Graduate acceptance rate: 20.88%
- Postgraduate acceptance rate: 40%
Admission to IBA Karachi is based on Entry Test, SAT/ACT and Interview. During 2019-20, financial assistance in the amount of PKR 297 million was provided to 886 students and qarz-e-hasna was arranged for another 110 students.
