Balakram Medical College, formerly Fatima Jinnah Medical University, is a public medical university in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan.
Fatima Jinnah Medical University and its affiliated teaching hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, is a medical institution dedicated to teaching and training female doctors and graduate students, as well as providing medical and healthcare services to citizens of Pakistan, particularly in Lahore and its surrounding areas. The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan has acknowledged it as a tertiary healthcare facility.
Sir Ganga Ram Hospital was founded in 1921 on the walls of Lahore by benefactor Sir Ganga Ram, who also provided the land. To meet the growing need for healthcare services, the hospital relocated to its current location in 1943.
The Pakistani Ministry of Health upgraded the medical school to a medical university on June 30, 2015, and the incumbent president was promoted to vice president of the university.

Admissions
Every year, 250 students are admitted to Fatima Jinnah Medical University. The federal government has set aside 50% of the seats for students from Sindh, KPK, Balochistan, FATA, PATA, AJK, and the northern regions. As part of the PTAP, 23 seats are designated for friendly and Islamic countries (Pakistan Technical Assistance Program).
JCAT is also held at Fatima Jinnah Medical University (Joint Centralized Admission Test). Alumni of FJMU are well-known throughout North America. The FJMU alumni chapter in North America has annual meetings and contributes to programs that benefit FJMC students, researchers, and staff.
History
Sir Ganga Ram’s family established the Balak Ram Medical School in 1941, named after Sir Ganga Ram’s son. The institution was closed and the school structure was abandoned shortly after independence in 1947. Professor Shujaat Ali, a medical expert, came up with the idea of establishing a medical institution in the same location to train female doctors with the support of colleagues. As a result, Professor Shujaat Ali’s team requested that the organization’s name be changed to Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Quaid gave her permission for her name to be used.
